Day 74 - 12/02/2021 - Jean & Ron’s

Jean and Ron took me on a Wanganui tour, after they fed everyone at home. We first went to visit an Anglican Maori Church and the Pitiku Marae, it was really interesting to have Jean and Ron to explain me what was the different buildings and their different functions. On our way to the museum Jean fed Ron and I with two delicious milk ice cream. The museum was full of information about the first settlers living on the Wanganui River, how they built the Waka boat which was the only way for the maoris to travel long distances on river and sea. We went on the Wanganui River edge to have a lunch. And on our way to Roku’s we went to a “bonatical garden” and Castlecliff Beach. Roku and I took Millie his dog to have a swim in the Wanganui River and we met Thomas and Lucas two guys from Tchek Republic walking like me the Te Araroa, they had just finished river part. It was great to meet some Te Araroa walkers. Roku took me back home after that.
Une journée bien remplie avec un tour guidé par les meilleurs guides de la région. Jean et Ron m’ont embarqué voir une église Maori et le Marae de Pitiku. J’ai pu prendre quelque photos à l’intérieur de l’église normalement interdit, mais Jean fut tellement insistante que l’ouvrier sur les lieux a fermé les yeux. Ron qui est Maori m’a expliqué la fonction de chaque bâtiment du Marae. Et nous voilà partit en direction du muséum, chacun de nous une glace à la main comme des gamins sur le chemin de la fête foraine. Malheureusement le musée ne disposait plus de la collection de Partington, mais comme Jean sait si bien le faire elle réussit à convaincre la réceptionniste de m’amener toutes les reproductions pour que je puisses y jeter un coup d’oeil. Quatre livres remplies d’émotions, de visages, de fierté et moi assis au beau milieu de ce muséum tournant les pages bouche bée par un tel travail. Je me balade ensuite dans ce muséum à la recherche de réponses à toutes les questions que je me pose durant ma marche au sujet des Maoris et des deuxièmes colons. Toutes les réponses ne sont pas là mais l’endroit est magique pour moi comme un livre que tu dévores et ne peut t’empêcher de quitter. Nous allons ensuite prendre notre déjeuner sur les berges de la rivière Wanganui, où Jean et Ron passent leur temps à se fendre la poire sur le comportement si humain des canards et mouettes se battant pour un bout de pain. Après avoir visiter le jardin botanique nous faisons un tour rapide par la plage de Castlecliffs et ils me déposent chez Roku. Roku me prépare un super diner puis nous allons sur les berges de la rivière où je rencontre Thomas et Lucas deux marcheurs faisant la Te Araroa. Roku me ramène ensuite à la maison de Jean et Ron.
