I started around 8:30 am, following the path through forest and down the valley along the Hurunui River. I stopped for lunch at № 3 Hut where I met Scott a Te Araroa north bounder. We had a great chat and unfortunately he didn’t allow me to take a picture of him. I kept going, took a rest at Cameron Hut. While hanging out Grant a hunter came out from nowhere. His hunting fellows Josh and Craig arrived a bit later and they offers a Mac’s beers. Can you imagine having a beer on the middle of nowhere? No, me too… I stayed there enjoying their company and headed off on the track to reach Harper’s Pass Bivvy. An other Grant was there from Palmerston North. It’s the first time I met so many people on the track.

J’ai repris la route vers 8 h 30, continuant ma progression le long de la rivière Hurunui passant parfois par la vallée puis remontant dans la forêt. Je m’arrête en chemin pour prendre mon déjeuner à № 3 Hut où je rencontre Scott un kiwi faisant la Te Araroa mais du Sud au Nord. Nous prenons notre déjeuner puis il reprend la route. Il n’a pas accepté que je lui tire le portrait, je garerais pour seule trace de son passage dans mon aventure ce repas partagé et un cliché volé lors de son départ. Je m’arrête quelques kilomètres plus loin à Cameron Hut où je rencontre trois chasseurs Grant, Josh et Craig. Ils m’offrent quelques bières et me content leurs péripéties, je passe quelques heures avec eux profitant de ce moment assez exceptionnel une bière à la main entouré d’un paysage grandiose. Je quitte les lieux me dirigeant vers Harper’s Pass Bivvy où je rencontre un autre Grant, un gars sympathique venant de Palmerston North.
