My friends and I we came yesterday to Tapotupotu Bay to camp and we spent this last night talking and drinking beers before the first step.
Sarah and Aurélie made me a beautiful last breakfast and coffee on the morning then we headed to the Cape Reinga light house full of tourists, taking the picture under the yellow sign wasn’t easy.
My first step finally, I’m looking at my friends waving and yelling my last name “Moly”, I feel sad to leave them but I have to go.
Landscapes are beautiful, a bit like Australian semi-arid area.
I’m walking across dunes, red rocks, flax while the sea is playing this endless song.
After 11 km, I stop at Twilight Beach Campsite tired my legs are really swollen caused by the weight of my backpack, everything is here water, toilets and a shelter, luxury.
Pete a tramper who I met on the morning, arrives after me and we start talking about Te Araroa and hiking.

Mes amis et moi avons dormi hier à Tapotupotu Bay, nous avons passé ma dernière soirée à boire et discuter avant le grand départ.
Le matin, Sarah et Aurélie me préparent un magnifique petit déjeuner, le dernier… avec un vrai petit kawa, si c’est pas bon ça…
Nous nous dirigeons finalement vers mon point de départ le phare de Cape Reinga. Impossible de prendre une photo sous le panneau de signalisation tellement les touristes sont nombreux, je suis obligé de jouer de mes coudes pour me frayer un chemin.
Mon premier pas, enfin, j’ai attendu cinq mois pour ça et j’y suis. Mes amis me font des signes d’adieu et scandent mon nom, quelle honte! 😉 Cela me donne la force de partir même si je suis plutôt triste.
Plus j’avance, plus le paysage se dévoile devant moi, magnifique, rien à l’horizon seuleument des dunes et la mer.
Après avoir parcouru onze kilomètres, je m’arrête dans un camping sur Twilight Beach. Je suis épuisé, mes jambes ne peuvent même plus me porter.
Pete un randonneur que j’ai rencontré ce matin, me rejoins et nous passons la soirée à discuter de cette Te Araroa…
