Marc and Ian woke before me on the morning, a little bit tired by heavy snoring, I slept in. I finally left around eight am, and caught them up on the ridges, we shared some words and I headed back on the trail. The landscape was totally different, the red stones gave gave to the landscape a desert look. This last part of Te Araroa is totally remote, no one or nearly seems to be here. I had for goal Red Hills Hut this day, but I wasn’t certain to be able to reach it. Thirty kilometres is a huge amount when the track is undulating like that, and my broken shoes are really helpful. Around seven pm, exhausted, I pitched my tent near a creek three kilometres away before the hut. I can’t do much more.
